Why do water scientists wear purple gloves? Where do you buy them?

The blue glove is a nitrile glove. It is more resistant to corrosive chemicals and puncture than latex gloves, so you would use these in a lab handling potentially hazardous substances. There isn't a scientific reason for then being blue - it is just to distinguish them easily from latex gloves, which are normally white. They come in other colours as well.
