PIP joint injury to little finger?

A minor strain or sprain? Not sure what I did to my left little finger but did not hurt untill after working with a shovel and then pulling weeds the same day. The PIP joint is slightly swollen on the right side and my wedding ring on the ring figure seems to aggrevate it. I can bend the knuckle with out pain yet as soon as I hold something for a short time the joint pain increases, the joint swells more, and it becomes stiff. It would not be so bad if I was not a dishwasher since grabbing the dishes irritates it (increases pain, swelling, and stifness). I have had this problem for two weeks now, not seeming to get better, and not sure if I should bother the family doc with this now or wait a little longer.
